Precision High-density Biodegradable Natural Fiber Mousing Surface

(10.03.1999)

I felt compelled to write this page because of all the mousepad nonsense. I can't believe some mousepads actually cost more than the mouse. It has got to be the best scam going. No moving parts. No driver development costs. No user support issues. Maybe I should keep my mouth shut and invest in some mousepad manufacturers.

I have used plenty of mousepads at work. As a support person, I've also had to clean plenty of mice gunked up by lint and dirt. So do mousepads help prevent dirt build-up? Not any of the commercial ones I've ever seen. Don't get me wrong. You should use a mousepad. Some mousepads do help to give you a smoother glide and help to eliminate skipping. I use one myself. I just don't fall for nonsense such as 3M's Precise Mousing Surface or Everglide's Mousing Surface. Mousing surface? Mousing surface? How much did it cost their R&D to come up with that?

Below is a picture of my mouse in its native habitat.

Yes. It's just a piece of cardboard. Actually, it's a piece of high density cardboard that came with a calendar I bought a couple of years ago. I accidently discovered this Precision High-Density Biodegradable Tree Fiber Mousing Surface™ when I moved to my new apartment a couple of years back and needed something to put my mouse on. This is the best mousepad I've ever used. My mouse simply doesn't skip. And even though I've periodically checked the rollers for accumulated gunk, nada, after about two years of use.

It's sleek, low-profile, and provide an ample mousing area. The best part is that it's actually free (well, I'm assuming you're going to be buying calenders every year). Not only are you saving money, you're saving the enviroment by keeping extraneous packaging from hitting the waste stream.
